Fascinating Pokémon GO tube poster campaign spotted at Moorgate tube this morning.
Copy reads:
World leaders in
financial services,
the arts and
Poké ball throwing.
GO LONDON
So the first thing I’m asking is – what’s the objective? Is there a PokéStrategy to reach financial services and arts sectors in London? If so, why? Is Niantic moving into B2B markets? Can they even track where you work? Of course they can geolocate you, so maybe there are a ton of users clustered around the City of London. Where is the centre of “the arts” in London? There’s been a small amount of online discussion about using Pokémon GO for business, is it part of that channel strategy?
Even if you love this idea, the copy would read better like this:
World leaders
in financial services,
the arts
and Poké ball throwing.
GO LONDON
Whatever the strategy – and it’s unclear – I’d certainly have done A/B ads with financial services copy in one, and arts copy in the other, with the first positioned at key City tube stations, and the latter around Oxford Circus / Soho / Covent Garden. How hard could that be?
